The account books of these Bideford ships from 1766 – 1815 illustrate perfectly the decline in Bideford’s overseas fortunes in the late 18th / early 19th centuries. The article reviews the growth and decline of Bideford’s and North Devon’s trade both foreign and domestic from 1625 until 1816.
