A Bibliography of Nautical Dictionaries Part I

By L.G. Carr Laughton, published March 1911

Abstract

Professor Laughton begins by setting out an approach to defining and organizing such material, dividing the works into two categories: Encyclopaedias and Dictionaries, which explain or describe the words in question; and word-books and glossaries, which merely translate them. The remainder of the article consists of a table of Encyclopaedias and Dictionaries in English, giving the date, title, library location and remarks for each work. “Dictionaries of Special Subjects” such as navigation and naval architecture, are listed separately, using the same format.
