Abstract

This book aims to offer a fresh perspective on the famous naval battle which took place between the Imperial Japanese Navy and the Imperial Russian Navy in May 1905. However, for various reasons the book falls short of this goal and unfortunately adds little, if anything, to the existing body of published literature on the subject of the Russo-Japanese War in general and this, its crowning naval engagement, in particular. It is written in a lively and engaging style, but it leaves the reader with a sense of uncertainty as to whether it is intended more as an ode to the sailors of ‘The Fleet That Had To Die’ or a history of the Tsushima campaign as a whole…
