Book Review – ‘The Last Big Gun: At war and at sea with HMS ‘Belfast’ by Robert J. C. Mowat

By Robert J.C. Mowat, published November 2020

Abstract

The paramount significance of the light cruiser and its development within the Royal Navy of the later nineteenth and early to mid-twentieth centuries has long been recognized, both in academic and popular publications, and in the exemplary preservation and display (by the Imperial War Museum) of HMS Belfast in the Pool of London. This fine book well maintains the consistently high standard of these studies. Written to be readily comprehensible by the general reader, it will be of value to the specialist, who will particularly appreciate the comprehensive bibliography and references.
