The development of the Danish Navy during the reign of Christian IV (1588-1648) was due to the King himself, who loved the sea and was never happier than when he was cruising with the fleet. In December 1613 he issued the draft, here reproduced, of a contract for the shipwright Pether Mychelson to build a new ship on the river Elbe.
