Document: The Ornamentation of Men-of-War 1703

Abstract

In response to an earlier query and subsequent answer concerning the introduction of the lion figurehead, Perrin provides the full text of an official letter of 1703 containing the instructions for the simplification of carvings carried by his Majesty’s ships. The letter also contains information on cabins and other shipboard equipment.
