Giovanni Alfonso Borelli on the Construction of Galleys

By W. E. Knowles Middleton, published February 1973

Borelli expounds on his theories of galley construction improvements, oared ships of the ancients and his thoughts on galley rowing methods.  This is his only contribution to a maritime theme, his fame being established in the field of medical physics when he wrote De motu animalism.  An interesting article for those who are interested in oar arrangement theories with respect to galleys and scientific mathematics applications to galley construction.
