H.M. Torpedo-Ram Polyphemus

Abstract

As navies converted to steam from sail, attention was paid to the possibilities of new types of vessel. One such was the unique Royal Navy ‘ram’ Polyphemus which had a twenty year service career from 1881. Her dimensions, features and armaments are described as are her sailing properties. Details are given of her service in the Mediterranean and the Boer War.
