Lieutenant Edward Griffiths and the Franklin Expedition
Abstract
This article traces the career of the last Royal Navy officer to see Sir John Franklin alive as officer in charge of the supply ship for the north-west passage expedition, the Barretto Junior. Griffiths retained an interest in the fate of that expedition and made several suggestions for how the search for Sir John could be conducted, some of which were adopted in modified form.
