A Middle Kingdom Egyptian Boat Model

By G. T. Denford, published August 1981

Abstract

Describes an ancient Egyptian boat model acquired by the National Maritime Museum from the collection of the Barton family. Richly illustrated, it provides a detailed description of the vessel using the Reisner system. Analysis of the boat and crew models gives rise to speculation that the model may have been the work of more than one artisan, and may have been subject to some restoration work in more modern times. Concludes with an outline of the model’s current state and preservation work to be undertaken.
