Abstract

At the founding of the Royal Nautical Society in 1910 it was agreed that the society should compile a nautical dictionary or encyclopaedia. The author here discusses the difficulties inherent in such a task and proposes different strategies and methodologies by which the construction of a nautical dictionary might be achieved.
