Anderson Medal 2023
We are delighted to announce that the prestigious Anderson Medal for 2023 has been awarded to Professor Roger Knight for his book Convoys: The British Struggle against Napoleonic Europe and America (New Haven, Yale University Press).
The judging panel considered a strong list of nominees, covering a wide range of subjects under the broad heading of maritime history. The Committee agreed that Convoys provided a thoroughly researched study of a relatively neglected but hugely important subject. It was written in a style that would engage both specialists and a general audience. This was enhanced by the quality of the production of the book, which is a credit to Yale University Press. Professor Knight will be presented with the medal at the National Martime Museum on 2 nd May 2024 at the National Maritime Museum, after which he will deliver the SNR Annual Lecture, entitled, Captain Peter Rye, RN: fighting Napoleon and the Secretary of the Admiralty. This will be followed by a short reception. Full details of the event will be announced on the SNR website in the near future.
