Call for Volunteers to Help Restore the Replica Golden Hinde
The Golden Hinde is a full-size replica of Sir Francis Drake’s 16th century galleon, the first English ship to circumnavigate the world. Constructed using traditional materials and methods, she launched in 1973 and has sailed further than the original before settling in her current home in Bankside, London since 1996. For over 30 years she has been a living history museum educating schools and visitors.
The ship is undergoing a huge refit to ensure her preservation and there are many projects underway including woodworking, and painting to making the cannons onboard the ship look brand new. The team running her are looking for volunteers that are interested in working with their hands, experience working with wood and on ships isn’t essential but would be useful, though all skills or knowledge levels are welcome, and the shipwright leading the refit will be providing guidance and direction.
