Save the Victory Fund Centenary Event
A reception, talks and tours to mark the centenary of the launch of the Save the Victory Fund by the Society for Nautical Research on Trafalgar Day 1922.
It promises to be an enjoyable and interesting day, consisting of a buffet lunch, dedicated tours of the ship and the new Victory gallery, and talks from Andrew Baines, deputy director of the museum and curator and project director of the ship, on the current state of the restoration project, and from Dr David Davies, chairman of the society, on ‘Saving “Britain’s Sea Cathedral”: The Society for Nautical Research, Admiral Sir Doveton Sturdee and the Birth of the Save the Victory Fund’, based partly on new evidence from the Sturdee archives at Churchill College, Cambridge. A number of VIP guests will be attending.
