Note: Nautical Encyclopaedias

Abstract

Here Carr Laughton explains why he did not include very early encyclopaedias in his article which appeared in Volume 1, Issue 3. He reasoned that in the early 18th century nautical articles were written “in the office” and were compilations from technical works of earlier date, with the information given frequently being obsolete.
