Abstract

Hannay defends his claim that it was possible to purchase a posting in the Royal Navy as claimed in his article in MM Volume 2, Issue 4. Contrary to Cyprian Bridges’ (see MM Volume 2, Issue 5) claim that these payments were for settling mess bills, Hannay supplies evidence that the examples he gave were indeed for promotions.
