Note: Reef-Lines and Beckets

Abstract

Following on from previous discussions concerning ‘reefs’ Massie Blomfield relates how they were replaced for the more modern reef-lines and beckets on the topsails of the Agamemnon. The ship was being delivering to the Mediterranean fleet and the appointed fleet captain had them removed but they were again replaced when the original captain took command some time later.
