Note: A Sixteenth Century Ship of Lubeck

By R Morton Nance and R C Anderson, published May 1912

Abstract

The authors reproduce a drawing of a 148 gun Lubeck ship Der Alder, which the inscription appears to suggest was built in 1566. Having examined the drawing in some detail they then point out that some of the features in its rigging etc. seem very advanced for the mid-Sixteenth Century. As there are a number of dates on the frame they wonder whether the drawing was produced at a later date.
