Obituary: L. G. Carr Laughton
Abstract
G. Carr Laughton, who died in April 1955, is acknowledged as one of the major driving forces behind the foundation of the SNR and was editor of The Mariner’s Mirror from its inception until 1913. Not only did he edit the journal for three years, at a time when there were twelve issues per annum, but he was also a major contributor, having written over thirty articles on a wide variety of subjects. He was also an author, with his most notable work being Old Ship Figureheads and Sterns, the study of the decoration of ships in the sailing-ship era.
