Abstract

Peter Whitlock, who died in October 1989, had, for ten years, been the Hon. Treasurer of the SNR, becoming a Vice-President in 1988. Admiral of the Fleet Lord Lewin wrote ‘I had the good fortune to have Peter Whitlock as my Flag Captain. He was in his element as the Captain of Victory, realizing an ambition he had held throughout his naval career. His affection for that great ship was infectious, his knowledge encyclopaedic’. He also lectured and broadcast on topics ranging from the loss of the Mary Rose to the history of Nelson and his flagship.
