Obituary: Ole Crumlin-Pedersen
Abstract
Ole Crumlin-Pederson, who died in October 2011, was the founder of the Viking Ship Museum, Roskilde, and director of its Centre for Maritime Archaeology. He made a huge contribution to Danish and wider maritime archaeology and his impressive research achievements in this field were widely recognized. In Roskilde, in addition to recovering five eleventh-century Viking ships from Skuldelev, Crumlin-Pedersen and his colleagues investigated the principles of Viking shipbuilding by reconstructing ships with authentic materials and building techniques used in the originals.
