Obituary: Professor Christopher Lloyd

Christopher Lloyd, who died in March 1986, had a long association with the Society, having joined in 1946. He was elected to the Council in 1950, 1956 and 1962 and became a Vice-President in 1964. In 1970 he succeeded Alan Villiers as Chairman. From 1972 to 1979 he edited The Mariner’s Mirror and finally was elected as Hon. Vice-President in 1979. He had begun his teaching career in 1934, firstly at the Britannia Royal Naval College at Dartmouth, and, from 1945, at the Royal Naval College Greenwich, where he became Professor of History from 1962 until his retirement in 1966.
