Obituary: Professor Eila Campbell MA FSA

Abstract

EILA CAMPBELL, who died in 1994, held a number of positions within the Society, including Member of Council from 1986, Trustee from 1989 to 1993 and Vice-President from 1993. She will be best remembered for founding the SNR sponsored E.G.R. Taylor lectures and for promoting the study of the history of cartography internationally through her management of the History of Cartography conferences. Following her retirement in 1981 she could often be seen to-ing and fro-ing around the Royal Geographical Society, the British Library and Birkbeck College.
