By G. P. B. Naish, published November 1976

Abstract

The death, in October 1976, of Roger Charles Anderson, marked the end of an era in the history of the Society. With his friends Carr Laughton, Alan Moore, H. H. Brindley and Gregory Robinson he was responsible for founding the Society for Nautical Research. He was Hon. Editor of The Mariner’s Mirror on three separate occasions, in 1913-23, 1931-32 and finally from 1939 to 1946. From 1931 to 1960 he was also the organisation’s President. Like so many of his contemporaries he not only edited the Journal but contributed significant numbers of articles, many in collaboration with Gregory Robinson.
