Paddlewheel Fighting Ships of the Royal Navy

This article describes the early days of steam power, especially using paddle wheels, from the 1830s through to the end of the nineteenth century, although their heyday was during the first half of the century. It gives dates and technical details of the first paddle sloops and frigates and suggests how their success led to the construction of larger ships.
