Peru-Louisa Craig-Raupo
Abstract
The iron barque Peru was launched 17th August 1873. The barque’s graceful appearance and pretty lines were enhanced by a figurehead of a young woman representing Peru. Built when sail had reached a state of perfection, she had witnessed some of the brief reign of the lordly clipper, and the introduction of the large carrier. Sailing the world’s oceans she then witnessed their demise as steamers came on the scene.
