This article describes the competition between Queen Mary and Normandie for the trans-Atlantic speed record and the voyages undertaken by Admiral Land on both ships to appraise their capabilities with a view to increasing the American impact on the North Atlantic liner trade. It includes Admiral Land’s notes comparing the English and French engineering of these superliners.
