2021 Dr Paul Brown

We are delighted to announce that, out of all the various nominations, the prestigious Anderson Medal, for the best maritime non-fiction book of 2021 has been awarded to Dr Paul Brown for his Abandon Ship: The Real Story of the Sinkings in the Falklands War. The judging panel felt that:

Brown’s account goes beyond the initial redacted reports of the sinkings, blending details obtained under the Freedom of Information Act and personal testimonies, to create a rich picture of these events. His careful analysis and sensitive prose provide the well-informed reader and the newcomer with a coherent explanation of the background, the operational situations and technical issues involved in each of these dramatic battles. With some informative maps, photographs and diagrams, the book provides a new look at the ‘how’, the ‘why’, the consequences and the lessons.’

It is hoped that the medal can be presented to Paul on Thursday 4th May 2023 with a ceremony at the National Maritime Museum followed by a lecture, given by the author, and a short reception afterwards. Details will be announced in the New Year on the SNR website.
