By R.W.H. Miller, published November 2010

Texts from the early Christian era contain a number of references to the sea, ships and sailors which afford useful information for the maritime historian regarding ships, attitudes to the sea and maritime communities during the Late Antiquity. These writings, primarily of Orthodox Christians, are mainly concerned with the Mediterranean and offer interesting insights into interaction between Christian and maritime communities.
