Document: Seamen’s Clothes Part V
Abstract
No further regulations were issued after 1641 regarding the vending of clothes on his Majesty’s ships but Perrin reproduces two lists of 1656 and 1663, showing purchase prices and clothes returned following the completion of commissions. The remainder of the article consists of a copy of a new, thirteen paragraph set of regulations issued in 1663 concerning the sale of clothing on Royal Navy ships. Once again the regulations contain a list of maximum prices that could be charged, but the actual price had to be agreed by specified officers of the particular ship.
