The Ship Models at Cuckfield Park, Sussex

By Henry B. Wheatley, published February 1911

Abstract

The ship model collection at Cuckfield are by tradition associated with Samuel Pepys, but most are from a later date than Pepys’ connection with the Admiralty. The connection between the model collection and the library suggests a connection with Charles Sergison, who was Clerk of the Acts from 1690 to 1719. This raises the question of what happened to the considerable collection of models of ships that Pepys left in his will to William Hewer for the ‘publick benefit’?
