Abstract

The National Museum of Ethnology in Leiden has a magnificent collection of ship models, most in storage but available to researchers. The models from Malaya and Java are described, with explanations of the construction of the original vessels, their purposes and owners. He concludes by wishing that these historically valuable craft cannot be shown to a more general public.
