I would suggest that it would depend on the length of the voyage, but a typical merchant brig of the period would probably have a crew of 15 – 20 men

“The average crew at the same time (mid-1770s)was between eight and nine men, no bigger than many households of the day, but the range was enormous, from the master, mate and boy who worked a small coaster through the typical fifteen to twenty who crewed the ships in colonial trades to one hundred men on East Indiamen”
