I knew I had seen a reference to the scuttling of the High Seas Fleet at Scapa Flow in 21 June 1919 on the Forum and it was from Geoff Brooks who kindly posted a response dated on 14.11.2015 to my original post “Gallipoli 1915 – did the RN desert the Army?” dated 5.4.2015. This subject is still available on the Forum tagged “Gallipoli”.
His detailed response contains much valuable information regarding the scuttling and includes a quote from Admiral Rosslyn Wemyss, then First Sea Lord, which was “I look upon the sinking of the German Fleet as a real blessing. It disposes once and for all the thorny question of the distribution of these ships”.
I valued rereading Geoff Brooks post – thank you. No doubt this will be aired at the forthcoming conference.
