The French frigate Chiffonne landed her forecastle guns and used them with hot shot against HMS Sibylle in a battle in the Seychelles in August 1801. William James mentions this in his “Naval History of Great Britain” in volume III, p.131-2. There is also a recent discussion of hot shot both on land and at sea (for which there seems to be no authentic reference) on The Napoleonic Wars Forum.
