Hello Marianne,

Much of the available material, including both the fiction and non-fiction that I write, focuses on the navy. Barlow is indeed a great source, and although he might be higher status than you want, take a look at the diary of the naval chaplain Henry Teonge, which is available online. The other thing you could do is trawl the Marine Lives website – http://www.marinelives.org/wiki/MarineLives. You’ll probably need to try out lots of different search terms but there will certainly be relevant material. Good luck!
