Great painting. In fact, there appear to be two paintings with one yacht bigger than the other. I believe King Charles had many “Royal yachts” which were used as dispatch vessels going to and from the Continent. Would it be correct that the ensign flying from the bowsprit indicated that the King was aboard?
I assume that in the period of the painting that the yachts were steered using a whipstaff. If so, it is difficult to make it out.
