I would imagine that when the sailor died, his pension ceased. If an individual were to pass themselves off as a Greenwich out-Pensioner, or a Chelsea out-Pensioner, to attempt to draw the 3 months of pension from a district office, this was punishable by death.
Given that the pension variable accounting ledgers from the 1850s state the name and death date of pensioners who died, it seems likely nothing further was paid to the dependents of the deceased out-Pensioner.
