Where is it possible to find published information on the disposition of
cruisers on the Northern Patrol in the autumn and winter of 1939-40?

So far as published sources are concerned, there is a lot of information in Richard Osborne’s new (2007) book Armed Merchant Cruisers 1878-1945, published by the World Ship Society. A second major source is Don Kindall’s Royal Navy Day by Day. This does not exist in conventional printed form but as a printout available in a few libraries, or on the Web at http://www.naval-history.net/xDKWW2-3900Intro.htm#ded where it is entitled British and Other Navies in World War 2 Day-by-Day – Ship Movements, Actions, Losses. Although far from complete, it is rich in detailed information.
