Calling John Scott Russell experts.
I have just been reading George Emmerson’s Biography of John Scott Russell.
Something is puzzling me.
The photo on the cover (and on page 134) reports to depict JSR on the left. He is shown as portly and full of face.
Quite unlike the photos of him shown inside the book on page 54.
The cover photo (and on page 134) was taken at the launch of the SS Great Eastern 3 Nov 1857; the other two photos were taken c1850 and c1860.
They seem so at odds.
How sure are we that the Cover photo is really him and not someone else?
