John Uring (1735-1771) described himself as a Ship Chandler, working from 174 Fenchurch Street, London. He also manufactured/supplied a number of scientific instruments, telescopes and sandglasses etc. Can anyone provide further information regarding himself or his father?

If he made mathematical instruments, you might want to check the following book: The Mathematical Practitioners of Hanoverian England, 1714-1840 E. G. R. Taylor, Cambridge U.P. 1966.

I don’t know of any direct connection but Nathaniel Uring was commander of the Falmouth Packet ‘Prince George‘ [commission dated 6th March 1704]. He died in 1742.
