Last Engineer Vice-Admiral

      Some time ago I wrote the following:
      ‘Vice-Admiral Sir Hugh Thompson, who rose from ERA (Engine Room Artificer) to ERA (Engineer Rear-Admiral), died 11 December 1996 aged 65. Strictly, he was a Rear-Admiral(E) and that designation was abandoned after 1956. The last Engineer Vice-Admiral was Sir John Kingcome who died in 1950.’
      A friend has cautioned me that Admiral Kingcome was not the last Engineer Vice-Admiral but could not give an alternative name and date. Can any SNR colleague offer any comment or advice?


        If this could be interpreted as engineer officers (weapons or marine) who rose to the rank of Vice Admiral, it would include Sir Robert Hill and currently Andrew Matthews.
