Can anyone describe the clothing that merchant seamen wore in the early 19th century please? Would masters dress differently?

If you use the Mariner’s Mirror search function on the SNR Website there is quite a lot on seafarer clothing, noting that there was no ‘uniform’ for naval ratings in this era, so little difference in dress before the mast whether in naval or mercantile service.
Except in the East India Company ships, which ran on quasi-naval lines, officers dress in merchant ships would only really have differed from ratings in terms of quality.
