Is there a specific date for the introduction of the RD – the Royal Naval Reserve Officers’ Decoration? I have 6 May 1908 for the King’s approval of the medal design but November 1909 for the design ‘being settled’; 1 January 1908 for an Order-in-Council; and three dates for the medal being ‘instituted’ – 17 August 1908, 15 February 1909 and 31 May 1910. Help, please.

I would suggest a date of 1908. The Navy Lists after this period, give the regulations and criteria for decorations, and for the RD they reproduce the Admiralty Circular dated ‘September 1908’ for the announcement that “His Majesty The King has been graciously pleased to approve of the institution of a Decoration for Commissioned Officers of the Royal Naval Reserve….” .
The first awards announced in the Gazette were in November 1909 (Gazette issue no 28305 dated 9 Nov 09)
