In John White’s 1585 La Virgenia Pars; a map of the east coast of North America from Chesapeake Bay to the Florida Keys, the Tiger is shown arriving from the southeast, sailing up the coast to present day North Carolina, anchoring on the Outer Banks, and sailing back to England.
When the sails are filled with wind, the main course appears forward of the fore course. Did John White illustrate this correctly? If the Tiger were on a tack, it would be very difficult to change the tack!
[I am] a very frequent visitor to the Roanoke Island and the Outer Banks in North Carolina.
