During the period 1815 to 1824 the armed brigs Prince Regent and Princess Charlotte were apparently operated by the local authorities in Sierra Leone on anti-slavery duties in conjunction with the Royal Navy. The Prince Regent participated in the defence of Cape Coast Castle in 1823 and covered the survivors of Assamacow in 1824. What was the actual history and status of these vessels and what was the relationship of their officers and men with the Royal Navy? Colin Jones
