I have been sent a very interesting email about a possible stone anchor. This was discovered last week on Littlehampton Beach – and as Pevensey Bay is only 20 miles to the east of where the stone was found – the lucky beach-comber was wondering if it might be a Roman stone anchor…

Are you sure this is an anchor? A friend found something similar off the Dorset coast about 10 years ago. It was thought, because it only had 1 hole in the centre and not the usual patterns of holes which would have had pieces of wood through them, that it was a fishing net weight.
