Does anyone know the whereabouts of the set of three paintings showing from left to right, a four-masted ship, Thomas Eldred, and a globe? The only references I can find are in Miss AD Harrison’s article in The Mariner’s Mirror in 1929; and in Ipswich through the Ages, published in 1945. Both writers appear to believe that the paintings were in a house called Olivers (now Eldred House) in Oliver’s Lane, Stanway, near Colchester, where Thomas’s second son John lived.
NB these paintings are very similar to the earlier panel paintings now in Christchurch Mansion, Ipswich, which were originally in Thomas Eldred’s house in Fore Street, Ipswich.
