Abstract

This article explains the rise of Southampton as a shipbuilding centre under Henry V for whom it was conveneient as a launching point for his attacks on France. William Soper supervised the building of the Holy Ghost and his accounts provide the detailed information available. Her equipment is listed, togther with her decorations and colour scheme. The accounts list the repairs and maintenance carried out over the years until her inevitable destruction.
