The National Maritime Museum

By D. Bonner Smith, published August 1937

Abstract

The SNR had lobbied for a national maritime museum from its formation and, in 1924, was able to announce that the Government had approved the issue of a press release stating that such a museum would be established. It was not until 1934 that the National Maritime Museum Bill was enacted, with the Museum officially opening in August 1937. The report summarizes the work done to date and records the situation at an important stage in the history of the Museum.
